Horse Shampoos that Makes You Take a Second Look

types of horse shampoos

The skin of a horse is sensitive and not just so, it is also vulnerable and prone to irritations and adverse reactions to the elements. As a result of this, there are different types of horse shampoos and conditioners that are designed specifically for the care and protection of the delicate and sensitive skin and coat of horses. The different types of horse shampoos are created to tackle and solve certain problems that horses have.

Some of the different types of horse shampoos include:

Antifungal Shampoo

This type of horse shampoo is designed specifically for the treatment of any form of fungal reactions that your horse has developed. It is also designed to help prevent the recurrence of any form of fungal infections. Most fungal infections lead to lesions along the legs and the flanks of the horse, causing hairlessness. It is also important that even though you notice a fungal infection on your horse, it is important not to actually use and antifungal horse shampoo on your horse without first consulting with your vet.

Equine Shampoo

It is important to make sure that you realize that human hair and the coat of a horse are not the same and as such, it is best not to make use of human shampoos on horses. An equine shampoo is specially designed for the exact pH of a horses skin. This means that it is most likely not bound to cause any form of irritation or lead to the loss of any necessary and essential oils from the skin of the horse.

Medicated Shampoo

Medicated horse shampoos are specially formulated for the specific treatment of skin diseases and disorders, much like those that are caused by parasites and bacteria. There are different types of skin conditions that affect horses, and it is important to consult a vet before applying any form of treatment so as not to worsen the condition. Also, it is important to note that some of these medical horse shampoos can cause irritation to human skin and should be applied with the use of gloves.

Color Enhancing Shampoo

Color shampoo

This is a horse shampoo that is specially formulated for treating the natural color coats of horses. They usually have a bit of dye in them, which help to enhance the coat color of horses. They are also designed to purify and polish the white hairs that are on the horse’s coat by cleaning up any brown or yellow tinges. For white horses, a whitening horse shampoo is best and would best for washing and polishing the white coat leaving it with a chrome finish. This horse shampoo is best used when you want your horse to have a very pleasing aesthetic value. This is usually done right before a horse show in order to properly showcase the horse.

Leave-In Shampoo

These are horse shampoos that are designed to be left in the skin of the horse between baths in order to maintain healthy skin and coat of the horse.

Before using any of these different horse shampoos, it is important to consult a vet, especially when you are not sure of what horse shampoo to use.
